ashes to ashes. funk to funky.


i understand that this may not be the coolest thing i have ever posted on here.
but for the last few weeks i have been sleeping a little less than usual. choosing instead to become part of the midnight secret club of certain people who love one thing.
cricket.
you can see us during the day through a few tell tale signs. bloodshot eyes, grasping a can of energy drink or strong coffee, attempting to carry on our daylight lives as usual.
and last night. for the first time in 24 years. england regained the ashes in aussieland.
some things were worth waiting a lifetime to see. just wish i was in melbourne sprinkling with the rest of them.

its been too long

wow so its been quite a while since I last made an update on here. summer left as fleetingly as it came and everyone started to get super excited for the dawning of the autumn season. so far its been pretty darn good! waves have been finding their way to every shore. After a summer filled with people and tensions my mind started to dream of empty waves and chilly cliffs.

Scotlands shore seemed to be calling me stronger than ever-but having booked flights to australia with the amazingness that is miss slorch-the pennies and my bank kicked me back into reality forbidding me to go.
knowing theres waves and knowing you cant reach them, that some barrel may go unnoticed or an ars may well have not happened is possibly the most frustrating feeling in the world. Luckily the zion team and mr's wilson and smith made sure they were documented. check out the boogtique site to see the results.

I turned my thoughts to the lands of faraway and decided to remind myself -and show stacey- how amazing it is over there. and so put together a little clip of my 6 weeks over there.having never used final cut before it took a fair while. the music used was a track that for some reason my ipod played at least 3 times a day while I was over there.
looking back through the footage reminded me of all the little incidents that had slipped my memory. I realised that in those 6 weeks i had learnt some valuable lessons. heres a few of them.

1.you can get sunburnt at 7am.very sunburnt.and if your at dbah it will only be one your left hand side, giving you a lovely phantom of the opera style tan line.

2.mike stewart will always make a barrel...always.

3.it is hard to run up sand dunes when they are the size of mountains.
4. always make sure you know how to get the spare tyre off the car before you get a flat. otherwise it will take hours.

5. there are alot and i mean alot of mouses in the desert. their favourite foods include bits of onion, eyebrows and vans shoes.

6.never ever discuss wolf creek when you are in the desert of south oz, specially as you may drive past a house decorated in animal skulls, or meet a creepy old man as your collecting firewood 2 hours from the nearest anything.

7.if you get out of a truck to change drivers and go for a pee- always take your phone-incase the people your with dont realise your not in the back of the truck and drive off.

8.green ants suck.fact.

9.never buy a car named ralph.no matter how much of a legend it is.

10.beetroot tastes loads better in australia.

lightbulb week the first bit.

When you are asked as a kid where you want your life to go there are many answers and these change constantly. everything you see and feel and experience changes and develops who you want to be. Sometimes this evolution occurs from one thing, and in that second,while an invisible bolt lights up your mind,you are overwhelmed with feelings of impatient longing, excitement and amazement at how important this event has been. This is a lightbulb moment. Dont not ignore them. Embrace them. and understand the light.
I remember the first time I ever went to a concert. Overwhelmed by everything I zoomed through 3 rolls of film, attempting to capture the atmosphere with every lighting change, every change of costumes, props and dancers. As the closing song of the set reached its crechendo a curtain of pyrotechnics fell like stars. BOOM. LIghtbulb moment. I was determined to become part of this world, watching dvd after dvd to learn how they could recreate such moments.
This clip is by far the best iv ever seen, so much so then when watching it, the invisible bolt hit me square between the eyes.
props to all involved in this. no matter what your views on the band are, please watch this.

I cleared my little point and press camera the other day and found these photos from south oz that i had forgotten about. i took them to prove that i was actually there..in the desert....with only the mice to talk to...only needing my backpack and water.so simple. no catastrophes made out of the smallest mouse hill. just some cobwebs and some sea shells and some silence. wow i miss that place.
shhhh.

today is grey

I'm not too sure what it is about grey...i like to wear it when im feeling indecisive, when i cant choose what mood to be or want to fade into the background. therefore grey days make you feel this way, flitting like a butterfly with memory loss from one task to another. Any colour you see is mesmerizing and inanimate objects bring more joy than perhaps they should to your jumbled mind.
This isnt to say that grey days are always terrible. fun times can be had when, every 25 minutes, your perspective changes. Today I made a button bracelet, drew a herring with a top hat, enjoyed a story on a squeaky tape and got lost for a while in the colours of my washing.
however one day is plenty for me.
dear sunshine stop playing hide and seek please.

the darkest side.

last drink sold, only the mere remains of a pint left abandoned by a cube of turquoise chalk to collect. A mop washes away any signs of footprints worn onto the floor during the evening rush with a citrus hue. lightbulbs snap off, ancient beams creak as the
old building sighs and drifts to sleep. weary feet stumble their way automatically to the car. The engine grumbles to life after an evening left in the rain. Suddenly through the speakers flows a song that paralyses everything as its so beautiful that any noise or movement or action may spoil it. so you sit and watch raindrops courteously waltz in silence down the windscreen, you hold your breath and you listen.

i love where I live-dont get me wrong- but working and living in the same place can cause suffocation every now and then. the best remedy is to run away for a few days and disappear into a sea of grey faces. this works in two amazing ways. firstly it inspires you beyond recognition (specially if you go to a few of the galleries in the big smoke or catch up with lost friends by the seaside). and secondly on your return to home, you remember why you love it and how amazingly vibrant and beautiful it really is.
Yes i do love the city sometimes.

dead cats and disco dancing.



there is a new website that you lovely people should run your eyes over, from those creative types at myheroskilledcowboys

when you press the very ace looking buttons- keep those peepers out for their blog- this has keep my ipod and ears super happy for quite a while now. oh yes and also please watch the Mowzer film that is hidden in the profiles section. i never knew a film with a stuffed cat and a leather sofa could be so stunning but its a true fact. The shots of sunbeams through long grasses actually turned my knees to jelly (lime flavour) they were that beautiful.
so yeah...go and have a look. and pass the message on to every badger, owl or stuffed cat.

2 pictures.2 places.everyday

airplanes.bunkbeds and a nice piece of victoria sponge.


flat as....
a pancake.a flatfish.paper.a flatpacked desk.and anything else thats pretty flat.
thats what its been like since iv been in nsw...iv been able to swim everyday, make stuff in the afternoon.and eat lots of fish. all of this is very lovely. but i do quite like the ocean more when theres a few lumps in it.

Some little squiggles and lines on t'internet put the bubbles of adventure and excitement into all of us and soon we were driving to sydney.after a quick stop to have a top gourmet dinner on the bonnet of the car we found ourselves just in time for a airplane to melbourne.
nice little drive in a clean white little hire car (why are they always white?) found us at the nicest backpackers iv ever been to.
standard 4 hours sleep..lots of museli and some green goodness for the fellas and suddenly we were staring into the most beautifully insane wave i have ever seen.
after climbing the cliff and finding a perch i sat and watched a pretty insane 6 hour session. victoria is beyond beautiful. going to let my eyes see more of it for sure sometime soon.
heres some shots of the whistle stop trip-which less than 24hours after getting the first plane i was back flying and wondering if I had dreamt it all.
